Italy: Pope reaffirms opposition to birth control

Vatican City, 3 Oct. (AKI) - Pope Benedict XVI on Friday reaffirmed the Catholic Church's condemnation of contraception despite claims that the policy has driven millions of believers away from the church.

The Pope's comments were released on the 40th anniversary of a papal encyclical on the controversial topic to coincide with a congress organised by Sacred Heart Catholic University and the John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and the Family.

"The possibility of procreating a new human life is inherent to the complete giving of the spouses," the Pope said.

This is actually an area that I do agree with our brother Pope Benedict XVI.

God Bless the Pope and may the Lord keep him bold, despite the opposition.

Amen to that, Cory. Thank God for his witness to Christ. He remains faithful, in his gentle but firm style, to the culture of life. Standing solidly on the rock of Peter, he is a voice crying in the wilderness against the "culture of death".
