Vatican tells Times to retract 'completely untrue' story about Pope's gift to Charles and Camilla

The Vatican has demanded that The Times retract a "completely untrue" story that Pope Benedict XVI planned to present a "luxury facsimile" of the 1530 appeal by English peers to Pope Clement VII asking for the annulment of Henry VIII’s marriage to Catherine of Aragon.

So The Times has apparently been hoaxed twice in 24 hours. By someone claiming that the Papal Nuncio had been rushed to hospital and that his reception was cancelled; and by someone claiming that the Pope was planning to present the Prince of Wales with a supremely undiplomatic present reminding him of the royal divorce leading to England's breach with Rome. The truth is, Pope Benedict is giving them the same gift that Obama the Great gave the Queen Mum; an Ipod complete with all of the Obamessiah's speeches already loaded onto it. I'm sure they will cherish it as much as the Queen Mum cherishes hers (she threw hers it into the dipsie-dumpster)!

I guess in a post-Christian era when "the news" is a never-ending series of scandalous sound bites, reporting the run-of-the-mill truth about the Pope and the Vatican just isn't sensational enough. Resorting to tabloid rumor is just all too tempting.

As to Obama, to our everlasting embarrassment as Americans, in his incarnation as the "Obamessiah," he's shown himself to be the perfect hypostatic union of unbridled arrogance and unparalleled incompetence.
